I have no clue how to start this email cause this week was an interesting week, that’s for sure! Crazy stuff. lol.
Monday: Super fire P-Day! Our zone has been complaining about having “trash zone activities” even though they never give good suggestions and never want to do anything lol. So, we cooked! We got with got with other Zone Leaders and asked if they would be up to doing a “Cross Zone” talent show! We got Prezzy’s permission, so it definitely wasn’t against any rules. haha. It was a blast! We called it ” Long Beach Got Talent!” It was a lot of fun!
Tuesday: A very normal day. We taught this old black lady named Jametta. However, we probably won’t be visiting her anymore because we don’t think she is mentally accountable and able to accept the Gospel at this time. But, she is so funny and is one favorite people we have taught. My favorite quote is when she said in her thick southern accent, ” hmmmm! “I don’t play around with God! Uh uh! If you wanna play, you got go to the playground to play! Me?? No! I don’t play around! Uh uh!” When she said it, I was actually dying it was so funny in the moment, trust me. Nothing else really happened accept that Hasii and Juan both wanted to take breaks from our discussions this week, so that was super rough.
Wednesday: Crazy day! Due to transfers we didn’t have a district council, so we had a very normal day. As we were waiting for our lesson with Mark we got a call from the AP’s. They asked if we were alone and the told us that they had a miscount on missionaries coming into the mission and they had an extra English speaking Elder that was was coming in. They told us president Galotera has chosen Elder Capps and me to train him! We were freaking out!
All day we couldn’t believe we were gonna be trio training. After we settled down from the news, we had an awesome lesson with the Fue family who we are working with. They came to to church this past week! After the lesson, we headed over to the Mission Home for what we call “Draft Night”! All the trainers line up against the trainees. The AP’s call the trainees to go to the middle and then call the trainers. There was this tall Elder who was pointing toward me, but I couldn’t tell why or if he was pointing at me, or someone else. He was then called to the middle and was introduced as ” Elder Anderson”.
I recognized the name and then realized that Elder Capps and I were called to train him! The first thing I asked was where he was from and he responded, ” American Fork Utah bro. I know you!” And, it instantly clicked that it was Wyatt Anderson from High School! We were more like acquaintances than close friends. However, we grew up attending Jr High and High school and had some classes together! He was taller than I remembered and its been about 19 months since graduation.
Thursday: Being in a trio honestly killed me day one. I am not a big fan of it because everything is just so different. I don’t like change very much, guys. We had our district council in the morning followed by the new missionary orientation meeting. After a long day of meetings I was really tired and lowkey in a bad mood haha. I was not digging the Trio, although it was fun catching up with Elder Anderson. I knew I just needed to change my mindset on things.
Friday: It was another rough day of adjustment for me with just the little things. Elder Capps and I had our morning and night routine down to a T. Now, it all got thrown for a loop. However, we had a good lesson with Mayro, who seems to be back on the map after he kinda went ghost mode for a bit. We had a lot of visits to do, but we just really chatted and visited all day tbh.
Saturday: Things really started to click on Saturday. I woke up and said the longest morning prayer of my whole mission, just asking for help on how to adjust to the trio. I love Elder Capps and I enjoy Elder Anderson but I was just struggling with the trio aspect. I felt an answer during my personal study to just have a better attitude for it. We went about our day and I really tried to have a better mindset. It made the biggest difference ever! It was so cool to see how just changing your perspective can change everything. We were able to find some elect people and work really hard!
Sunday: We kinda had a bummy turnout at church again, but it’s okay! We are still working with great peeps. We had a slow afternoon of visits and then we stopped by a family who had been taught in the past. We went by and we were able to talk to 4 people in the family! The contact’s name is Kimberly, and she has 6 daughters!! They seem super prepared to hear the gospel and we set up a church tour with them on Wednesday. I’ll let you know how it goes!
We ended the night by doing a training meeting for some of the new missionaries in the zone to help them with their teachings.
It has been crazy being comps with someone you know from High School and even crazier being in a trio. I have seen the Lord help me with this new adjustment though. It has helped me know of assurance that he is aware of all of his children and that He loves us all so much. God’s love truly is the greatest thing on this earth. I know you can feel of his love each and every day as you submit to His will and put your trust in Him. I love you all! Have a blessed week!
