What’s good everyone! Another week down in Cali! It has officially been a month since I arrived here and it’s been a crazy experience so far. Ha ha. This week started off super slow then, all of a sudden it was Pday. It was so weird.
Monday: NGL, pretty mild Pday. ha. ha. We didn’t do anything that was exciting but did a whole lot of planning for the next week, plus recovering from all the hard work we have been doing. Our zone activity was pretty chill, I guess. We went over to a “Pumpkin Patch” but it was more like a “Cornbellys”, for those who know what I’m talking about. For a group of 19-21 year olds we didn’t find this to be crazy fun as most of it was meant for little kids. Plus it was super over-priced. We left after about 20 minutes and hung out at the park instead.
Tuesday: Call me “Gordon Ramsey” cause I might be him. On Tuesday’s we have weekly planning, which is suppose to last for two whole hours. It’s insane. It only take about 15 minutes to do so IDK why it has to be scheduled for so long. So, I wanted to test myself in the kitchen and do some meal prep for the week. I honestly am pretty proud of my self for not burning down the apartment. lol. Cooking is low key pretty fun.
Anyway, we went and knocked doors and we stopped at this random guy who was soooooo Lit. His name is Kyle. He is a “die hard” Christian for another church and loves talking about Jesus. We hung out at his house for over an hour and he gave us Prime Energy drinks. He made us sit and watch a video about his pastor and himself. The video was actually pretty good. The video was super energetic and just wanted people to come to Jesus. Kyle was actually pretty inspiring and made me want to live a better life. Ha ha.
Elder Hurst and I ended the night with bible study and that was good as usual.
Wednesday: HOTTTTT DAYYYYY! IDK why it felt so hot when it was only 90 degrees, but man we were dying. And, of course, it was the day we decided to knock doors the longest. We walked for so long that we were “dripping sweat” like crazy. As we were walking along we noticed a “Lazy Boy” chair on the side of the road and it said “Free”. So, we did what any teenage boys would do and we got our car and snagged it. We got it back to our crip and instantly we found it smelled of weed. Nasty!
That night we went to the youth activity at a member’s home and they were BUTCHERING CHICKENS. What the heck? Never in my 19 years of going to hundreds of youth activities did we ever kill a live animal and butcher the dang thing. They showed us how to kill the chicken and how to skin it and everything. They were supposed to do 1 rooster and 1 chicken but the dad accidentally grabbed a hen instead of a rooster and he didn’t realize it until an egg was found inside the poor thing. So that poor homie coulda lived another day.
Thursday: If I could describe this day it would be like a plain piece of wheat bread, the color grey, Nebraska, and anything bland and boring you can think of. We had a follow up zone conference but like that’s legit all we did.
Friday: Morning started off so funny. All week had been waiting to do a massive service project with our whole zone of 16 people. We were told it will take us 3 hours. We pulled up…. It’s a yard sale. They needed help setting up some stuff for a yard sale that took me and 3 other elders 10 minutes. Our whole zone showed up and instantly left. We have no clue what was going thru their heads when they said 3 hours with 16 people. hahah.
Elder Hurst and I went back to the apartment and changed clothes and went to work. We would always drive past big apartment complexes and and decide which one to go in. I would be like, “That one doesn’t look too big.” I was wrong. I HATE BIG APT BUILDINGS! It is a stupid maze in there and we we were lost like the whole time and walking in circles for ever. I hate them.
Saturday: Random exchange day! The ZL’s randomly pulled up and said, Let’s exchange for the day. So I left the area and was with Elder Hubbard from last exchange and it was lit! We were able to teach 5 lessons in a day and it was so fun. He told me I’m a way better teacher than he was at this rate lol. It was so good to get some teaching experience with the 22 month old ZL cause he is insane. We also talked to 3 people about the NFL for about 30 minutes each and that was so nice. When I tell them I’m a Chargers fan I get roasted so hard. It’s fun tho. I love talking about the NFL. It makes me think of how awesome football is.
Sunday: Member Dinner: So, to start, it was with a younger couple who are maybe 30 and they have a 2.5 year old little girl. Very interesting couple. They are the same family who had me over for my first ever member meal.
So, the little girl runs this apartment. She gets whatever she wants by just screaming her head off. I had the biggest headache. They sat her ON TOP of the table in a mini yard chair thing. Idk where this baby was before we came but the bottom of her feet were just black as if she ran across a road 100 times. and her feet are just all over the table. So I already lost my appetite even after fasting for 24 hours. Oh also, they hadn’t even started on dinner by the time we got there because they just assumed we were gonna be late? I was like what?
Anyway. The dinner goes on and this baby is like throwing Avocado at me and I’m like, “Yo baby if you don’t stop I’mma going to flip this table and you’re gonna fly.” Luckily I didn’t have to. As we are chatting with this couple while eating desert I look out of the corner of my eye and THE BABY IS FALLING OFF OF THE TABLE IN HER CHAIR!
I was on the opposite side of the table so I might have caught her but she just flew off so fast I couldn’t. I felt so bad because she was weep-in so hard. The whole time we were eating I had been imagining her falling off the table. I also was trying not to laugh. As they were checking for a concussion Elder Hurst and I are just chillin on the couch trying to comprehend what was going on and not laugh. They end up asking me to pray for the little girl and I did. But man, I was really trying to hold it in. I felt so bad, but man, it was so crazy.
Anyway, sorry for the long email hahah. This week was great and eventful, and I’m excited for next week! Love and miss you all and I appreciate all of you who have been reaching out! LOVE YOU GUYS SO MUCHHHHHH!!!!
